“They’re here!” a tall, slender woman with auburn hair called out to them. “Everyone’s looking for you. Oh, good morning!” she looked at Oksana curiously.
“Vera, this is Oksana… an old acquaintance of mine,” Yuri said slowly, without taking his eyes off Sofia. “Oksana, this is Vera, my wife.”
“I’m so glad,” Oksana forced a smile onto her face. “We have to go, sorry.”
“Wait,” Yuri stepped forward. “How can I reach you?”
“No way,” he turned and quickly headed for the exit, holding Sofia’s hand.
In the taxi, the little girl snuggled up next to him:
“Mom, who was that?”
“I only had one acquaintance, my dear. We haven’t seen each other for a long time.”
Aunt Galina’s apartment remained as cozy as it had been five years ago, when Oksana arrived here from Kiev with a small suitcase and a broken heart.
“You haven’t changed at all,” the aunt smiled, stroking Sofia’s head. “And this little lady has only grown up in photographs before my eyes. How are you, Oksanotskaya?”
“Everything is fine,” he helped his aunt sit in the armchair. “Don’t worry, the doctor said it’s nothing serious, just stick to your usual routine and take your medicine.”
“That’s not what I meant,” the aunt looked at him carefully. “How do you really feel? Is your heart okay?”
Oksana caught his eye.

“I already did. In the new business center. Can you imagine the chances of me running into him on my first day in a city of almost half a million people?”
“Fate,” the aunt shook her head. “You know, it was looking for you.”
“What?” Oksana suddenly turned to him.
“He came a month after you left. And then several times. I said I don’t know where you are.”
“Thank you,” Oksana squeezed her aunt’s hand. “That’s right.”
