“Fluffy? Coward?” he repeated slowly. “An eight-year-old girl enduring the darkness, loneliness, and evil of a grown woman… stronger than you will ever be, Lorena.”
Lorena blushed.
“How dare you?”
“You should thank God I’m not calling the police right now.”
The woman gave a short, nervous laugh:
“Why? For a strict education?”
“For emotional abuse,” Javier said, every word sharp and cold. “For neglect. For the lies you told the child. For telling him I was dead.”
Lorena opened her mouth, but no sound came out of her throat.
Javier continued:
“You’re leaving tomorrow morning. Definitely. Not a step towards Emma. Not a word about her. And if you ever try to see her again…”
His gaze turned into a knife.
“Then I promise you’ll never get away with this again.”
Lorena’s face turned blue. She tried to say something, but Javier turned away, making it clear that the conversation was over.
**
The next few hours passed in a blur. Lorena quietly gathered her things while Javier stood guard in the hallway. At sunrise, a taxi pulled up in front of the villa. Lorena turned around only once.
“Javier… you will regret this. I will destroy you.”
“It’s coming out.”
The door slammed behind him.
Finally, silence.
True, fearless silence.
Javier returned to Emma’s room. She was fast asleep, her face peaceful, shadowless, the rising sun playing in her hair.
He sat down next to the bed and looked at her.
