Until the message came.
It was a Tuesday night. Rain tapped softly against his apartment window while he sat scrolling endlessly through his phone, trying to ignore the silence that had filled his life for months. Ever since his younger sister, Lily, passed away, everything felt… paused.
Then his phone buzzed.
Unknown number.
He almost ignored it—but something made him open the message.
“Check the blue box.”
Ethan frowned. What blue box? He looked around his small apartment. Nothing unusual. Just the same furniture, the same mess, the same emptiness.
He typed back: Who is this?
No response.
A minute passed. Then another message:
“You promised.”
His heart skipped.
There was only one person who used to say that to him.
Lily.
He stood up suddenly, scanning the room again, his breathing getting heavier. “This is stupid,” he muttered. “Just spam.”
But his eyes landed on something he hadn’t noticed in months.
A dusty blue box tucked under the coffee table.
Slowly, he walked toward it.
He hadn’t touched that box since the hospital.
With trembling hands, he pulled it out and opened it.
Inside were dozens of folded notes.
Memories.
Plans.
Jokes they had written to each other over the years.
And at the very top… a note he had never seen before.
He unfolded it.
