When I became a widow, my son sold my house without asking me, but he knew nothing of the secret my husband had left me.

The decision

Donald’s voice brought me back to reality.

“Mom, did you hear? We need your signature tomorrow.”

I folded the letter carefully.

Then I answered calmly:

“Oh, I heard you, Donald. And you are getting exactly what you asked for.”

The family gathering

The next day, the whole family was gathered in the living room.

Donald.

Darlene.

Their tone was forcedly friendly.

They had already prepared the paperwork.

The house was to be sold.

And the only thing I had to do was draw.

Donald placed the document in front of me.

You can sign here.

I picked up the pen.

I looked around me.

I had raised these children.

For which I had worked so hard, cooked, and made so many sacrifices.

And now…

They offered me a cellar.

I put the pen on the table.

I have something to tell you.

They looked at me.

Impatient.

I will not sign anything.

Donald frowned.

“Mom, that’s not reasonable.”

I smile kindly.

You are right. It is not reasonable.

Then I extracted the file.

The rest is on the next page.
