A pretentious woman, a 72-year-old waitress, called me ‘rude’ and left with a $112 bill – I showed her she’d picked the wrong grandmother

I hadn’t raised my voice. I hadn’t said a single hurtful word. I’d just been doing my job.
“Keep this.” She picked up her phone, smiled at the camera, and said, “I’m leaving. This place doesn’t deserve my money or my platform.” She grabbed her bag and left, leaving the $112 bill on the table.
“I won’t pay for this disrespect.”
I stood there, watching the doors close behind her. And I smiled.
Because she’d just messed with the wrong grandmother.
A few minutes later, I went straight to my manager, Danny. “This woman just ran off with an unpaid $112 bill.”
Danny sighed. “Esther, these things happen. We’ll cover it.”
He looked at me, surprised.
“I’m not letting her get away with it. She won’t be getting a free meal just because she threw a tantrum on camera.”
She’d just messed with the wrong grandmother.
“Get the money.” I turned to Simon, one of the younger waiters. “You got a bike, kid?”
He smiled. “Uh… yeah. Why?”
“Because we’re going to catch her.”
His smile widened. “Miss Esther, looks like someone picked the wrong grandmother!”
I took the bill from the table and tucked it safely into my apron. Simon and I climbed onto his bike.
He looked at me. “Will you be okay sitting on the back, Miss Esther?”
I laughed. “Darling, back in my day I was a local cyclist. Just ride. I’ll hold on.”
He started off, and I spotted Sabrina immediately. She was walking down the main street, phone still up, still on the air.
