My grandmother swears by this trick for degreasing the toaster.

We use it almost every morning, but we often forget about it when it’s time to clean. And yet, the toaster quickly accumulates crumbs, streaks, and unappealing residue. The result: an appliance that sometimes smells burnt and doesn’t exactly inspire you to prepare breakfast. Before you sigh or consider replacing it, know that there’s a very simple method, passed down through generations, to give it a second life without scrubbing for hours.

Why does the toaster get dirty so quickly?

Between breadcrumbs, fingerprints, and invisible splatters from toasting, the toaster is a real dirt magnet. Because it heats up, residue tends to quickly stick to its surface, especially the outside. And since it’s an electrical appliance, we often hesitate to clean it thoroughly for fear of damaging it.

Grandma’s trick that changes everything

The good news is that you don’t need any complicated or expensive products. The magic duo is already in your cupboards:  white vinegar and baking soda . Together, they form an effective solution for dissolving grease and loosening dirt, while remaining gentle on surfaces and without leaving a lingering odor.

Step 1: Secure and prepare the device

1.1 First of all, unplug the toaster and let it cool completely.

1.2 Next, remove the crumb tray and empty it.

1.3 Carefully turn the appliance upside down over the bin to dislodge any trapped crumbs. This step is essential before any wet cleaning.

Step 2: Gently degrease the exterior

2.1 In a bowl, mix  100 ml of white vinegar  with  100 ml of lukewarm water .

2.2 Soak a soft cloth with approximately  50 ml of this mixture , wring it out thoroughly, then clean the outside of the toaster. Grease stains will disappear quickly.

2.3 For more pronounced areas, sprinkle  ½ teaspoon (approximately 2 g) of baking soda  onto the damp cloth and rub gently, without forcing.
