What I observed, and what worried me so much, was inflammation of the skin, with slight superficial bleeding due to friction.
“It’s nothing serious, but it’s very disturbing for such a young child,” the doctor added. “He’s suffered a lot.”
A huge wave of relief washed over me, but at the same time, a twinge of anxiety shot through me: Did my parents know? Had they noticed something earlier?
A few minutes later, they let me into the room. The baby calmed down, they applied a special cream and put a soft bandage on it. I held it in my arms with a feeling of tenderness and guilt. I stroked its head until it finally fell asleep.
